Adjusting insulin dose with snacks

David Kinshuck

Why test glucose levels and adjust insulin dose?

Snacks containing more than 1 CP need to be covered by quick-acting insulin. This should be taken with the snack, but may be planned in advance. This diagram may help.

Take QA insulin at time of the snack or at the start of the next meal. Start with a ratio of 1:1

If you decide not to inject for a snack eaten before a meal ...do not correct for it...just adjust for the meal   (correct for snacks in future)
